Recombinant Leishmania infantum Heat Shock Protein 83 for the Serodiagnosis of Cutaneous, Mucosal, and Visceral Leishmaniases
Routine serological diagnoses for leishmaniases, except in visceral cases, are performed using whole-parasite antigens. We used enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to evaluate the performance of Leishmania infantum rHsp83 compared with L. major-like total promastigote antigen in the diagnosis of cutaneous (CL), mucosal (ML), and visceral leishmaniases (VL). ELISA-rHsp83 was significantly ...

The serologic assay is an important tool in the diagnosis of leishmaniasis. One of the most commonly used tests is enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Since total Leishmania promastigotes are used as antigen in the routine assay, false-positive reactions are frequent due to cross-reaction with sera from other diseases, mainly Chagas' disease. Therefore, an antigen that determines less cr...
متن کاملImportance of L. Infantum H2B Recombinant Antigen for Serodiagnosis of Visceral Leishmaniasis
Background: Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) can lead to death in more than 95% of cases if left untreated. Accurate and early diagnosis has an important role in reducing mortality rate of this disease. Objective: To express recombinant H2B antigen from an Iranian isolate of Leishmania Infantum and evaluate its efficacy in the diagnosis of VL. Metho...

Serological tests with crude or recombinant Leishmania antigens are important tools for the diagnosis of leishmania infection. However, these tests are not markers of active visceral leishmaniasis (VL), since antibodies to these markers are often observed in individuals with subclinical L. chagasi infection and they do not fall shortly after therapy. In this study, levels of immunoglobulin G (I...
متن کاملVisceral leishmaniasis with cutaneous involvement caused by Leishmania infantum-chagasi
We report the case of a 66 year-old woman who presented nodular skin lesions on her back and upper extremities. Biopsy revealed amastigotes that were identified as Leishmania infantum-chagasi by PCR. Evaluation also showed hepatomegaly and pulmonary nodules. Treatment with amphotericin B led to complete resolution of skin lesions.
